My Story

As a young child, I stuttered severely, and lived my life often in silence, listening rather than speaking. My interactions with the outside world were often limited, my mother feared the cruelty of others toward me, so, she introduced me to her world of poetry, art, philosophy, and music; my days were often spent taking long drives and listening to my mother telling what I could do, rather what I couldn't. My keen observation of the world around me, gave me the ability to hear and learn so much more, than what is observed by the everyday person.

I feel it is important for me to utilize my skills and talents in creating film to explore and create a world of safety for the storyteller, giving them every opportunity to remember their commitment to those who can no longer speak on their behalf; the journey created by my films, is my commitment to social equality and my representation of my love for sharing the stories of ordinary and extra-ordinary people living simple lives. I believe that personal stories and reflections can help bring into question stereotypical portrayals that sometimes dominate our myths about each other and hearing something familiar can remind us that we are not so very different; and that film can help us create a public record of little known and neglected histories for future generations to come. Today, my films are part of Women's, Native American and Ethnic studies at Universities throughout the country.

My mother is my greatest inspiration, because of her love and devotion to my growth, she encouraged me to seek out strong and spiritual women to learn from, there are so many women who came into my life, and so many more that will come into my life and walk this journey of enlightenment with me.
